Merci Marcel for the Delicious Breakfast
Our first breakfast in Singapore was at Merci Marcel (I hope you enjoyed my play on words in the title) and I must say I had my reservations about it beforehand. When travelling to Asia, I usually prefer to stick to local delicacies and stay away from Western food, simply because the local dishes tend to be worlds better. Having been to Europe and living in a city like Montreal, I have no shortage of excellent European restaurants under my belt and find it difficult to be impressed by European cuisines anywhere else. Similarly, I am a huge fan of Asian food and know how good it is when you get it in its country of origin.
Well, Merci Marcel is an exception, and although it isn’t the only exception in Singapore, I thoroughly enjoyed my morning having brunch there. We went to the one at Robertson Quay because it seemed to be the one closer to our hotel and I really liked the set up by the water. They had a lovely terrace on the outside and a beautifully decorated indoor section as well. We were greeted warmly by the staff, namely by a French man who seemed to be the owner or the restaurant manager.
Moving on to the food, we ordered the croque Marcel and scrambled eggs (with truffle) to share and both were very good, along with some iced lattes which came in the cutest mugs. I enjoyed the way the croque Marcel was presented, with great quality prosciutto and sourdough bread. It also came with a side salad which was clearly very fresh; the leafy greens being brightly coloured.
Overall, Merci Marcel is a restaurant I’d go back to and recommend to someone looking for a quality brunch place. The service, food and decor were all great and it reminded me of Montreal in a way. If you’re looking for a break from hawker centres while getting to eat delicious food, at a spot that isn’t a tourist trap, then Merci Marcel is the one for you.
